Please consider whether you can make room in your home for one of DHA's pets.

To meet a pet and spend some time to get to know them, meet with our adoption counselor to discuss the adoption.

Applying to Adopt

Review this application form to be sure you bring the necessary information and documentation when applying at the shelter to adopt a pet.

To adopt a pet please bring the following information

  1. ID (preferably driver’s license)
  2. Proof of address
  3. Approval by landlord to own the pet you are adopting
  4. Employment verification
  5. Veteriarian reference to ensure that prior pets were well cared for and that current pets in the household are up to date on their shots.

About your DHA pet

All animals receive microchipping. Free collar, leashes, and ID tag with every adoption.

When You Are at Home

Once you have your pet at home, read through the resources in your adoption packet and in the Pet Health, Behavior & Care section of this web site.
If you have questions or problems please call us right away so we can help you and your pet make a successful transition for your new family.

Out of state adoptions

Out of state adopters are permitted, adoptions procedures are the same and all detailed above.
