Obsessively scratching needs to be addressed

There is nothing unusual about an occasional itch, for which, of course, the best treatment is an occasional scratch.  However, if your pet is constantly and obsessively scratching, licking, or biting himself, you can be sure that he has a problem that’s not going to disappear on its own.  And if your pet’s constant scratching and licking are annoying you, just think how uncomfortable he must feel!

This abnormal behavior indicates the presence of a skin disorder, which may be caused by allergies, parasites, nutritional deficiencies, fungus infections, or even emotional problems, such as anxiety, boredom, or frustration.  Whatever the cause, early intervention is the best response.  Your vet can diagnose the specific problem and can prescribe medication, change in diet, or other appropriate treatment.
