Pet Health & Behavior

Spring Cleanup Is for Pets Too

This spring when you tackle the job of getting your flowerbeds ready for summer, please make sure that your pet’s health is also in good shape.

  • Check that vaccinations are up to date. Contact your vet with any health concerns, especially if you’ve noticed changes in your pet’s behavior or physical appearance.
  • Warm weather means an increase in fleas, ticks, and other parasites. Protect your pet from infestations that can lead to serious health problems. Your vet is the best source of reliable information.
  • Has your pet gained weight during the winter months?  Now is a good time to resume daily exercise. For most dogs nothing beats a walk. More active canines may also enjoy a game of fetch with a ball or frisbee.  Indoor cats can get plenty of exercise chasing balls, laser beams, “cat dancers,” and other toys.
  • In the spring many cats and dogs shed their winter coats and require extra grooming. Regular brushing is also an excellent way to bond with your pet.
  • If you use the Internet, check the Web for reputable animal organizations that post detailed pet care information.

With loving care your pets, like your flowerbeds, will flourish throughout the season.
