Dog licensing reminder for Delaware residents
Posted on February 28, 2012
Did your dog's license expire at the end of 2011, or do you have a new dog who is six months or older and hasn't been licensed yet? Stay legal and get your New Castle County or City of Wilmington license at DHA by the March 1st deadline (yes, the City of Wilmington licenses are finally in)!
Getting a dog license is easy and inexpensive. It's also State law, and along with microchipping is one of the best ways to ensure your pet will be returned if lost.
All dogs six months and older as of January 1st of a given calendar
year must be licensed for that year. Fines for an unlicensed dog range start at $50 for the
first offense. Dog owners residing in Wilmington need to get a City dog license. All other Delaware residents should get a dog license
from the County they live in. All licenses will be valid Statewide, and Wilmington
residents do not need a New Castle County license in addition to the
City license.
