DHA will be closed to the public this Sunday for Tails Around the Tower
DHA's adoption center will be closed to the public on October 5th so that the majority of our staff and volunteers can be at Tails Around the Tower, DHA's 24th Annual Walk for the Animals. Please join us at Rockford Park for a fun filled day, rain or shine!

This is the first year I will be walking at Tails Around the Tower, DHA's annual Walk for the Animals, but it certainly will not be the last. I moved to Wilmington, DE for my job, and the DHA has simply been one of the best things that has happened to me since moving here.

Sunday, October 5th marks the 24th Annual Walk for the Animals for Delaware Humane Association--which is quite a milestone for an organization established 57 years ago! I have been involved with DHA for a number of years by adopting pets, volunteering, event attendance, and most recently by serving on the Board of Directors.

A Penny 4 Your Thoughts
DHA is truly appreciative of every penny we receive, but we need 130,000,000 pennies, or $1.3M, annually. Did you know that based on actual costs along with staff time, from intake through the first two weeks of stay, it costs an average of $230 per dog and $218 per cat?

Last Call for Hard Hat Tours
We are thrilled that so many of our supporters have been able to take a hard hat tour through the new facility! For the month of October, DHA's Executive Director Patrick Carroll and Director of Development & Major Gifts Greg Munson will be doing final "Hard Hat Tours" every Thursday at 5:30 pm.

New DHA Board Officers and Members for 2014-2015 Announced
DHA's Board of Directors has re-elected Daniel E. Cruce, Esq. as President, and two existing members were elected to new roles: Peggy H. Eddens as Secretary, and Robert W. Pierce as Treasurer. In addition, five new members were welcomed to the board.

Employment opportunity at DHA for part-time Veterinary Technician
Veterinary Technicians at DHA are responsible for providing medical care to all shelter animals in accordance with DHA's policies and procedures, as well as assisting with public education about humane animal care and welfare.

Join us for Oxford Feed & Lumber's Whisker Walk 2014
Bring your dog and join us as we take a leisurely one mile stroll with adoptable dogs from DHA in the quaint town of Oxford, PA. Whisker Walk 2014, which benefits local pet rescues, takes place on Saturday, September 27th at the Oxford Feed & Lumber store.

DHA's inaugural Rubber Duck Race made a big splash
We had an amazing time at our inaugural Rubber Duck Race yesterday. We couldn't have done it without the hard work of DHA's staff and outstanding volunteers, our event sponsors and supporters, and all of you who helped the animals at DHA by adopting rubber ducks, including our winners!
