Volunteer Spotlight
Introduction
A small group of volunteers who founded DHA in 1957, and a
very large group of volunteers keeps us moving forward more than
50 years later. Without the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who partner
with us to serve the animals, we could not fulfill our mission.
We have about 250 active volunteers at any given time who help take
care of our resident cats and dogs and those at our satellite adoption centers, assist with administrative tasks in
the office, produce digital media to promote DHA's animals, programs and services, support our customer service staff at the front desk, and
lend a hand at community outreach/fundraising events and vaccination clinics. We also
have a dedicated group of volunteers who foster animals in their homes
to help prepare them for adoption.
Our Goals
Volunteers are vital to providing the animals in the shelter and
satellite adoption sites with the high quality of life for which the DHA
is known. You can make a difference in their lives every time you come
in for a shift at the shelter or volunteer at one of our many community
events. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the animals are happy,
healthy, trained and well-socialized. This improves their chances for
adoption and reduces the amount of time they spend in the shelter prior
to adoption.
